As a Christian how is it that we are suppose to have peace (Romans 5:1) when we are also fighting a war (Ephesians 6)? I have been pondering this question for the past few weeks. Anyone that has been in a combat situation knows that there is nothing peaceful about it. The same holds true for spiritual struggles whether they be against persecution or our own sin.
This morning, God answered my question. We can gain peace through by being prepared and utilizing the strength of God. It is a kind of deterrence or show of force to put in military terms. The objective should be to avoid the fight by standing with God and not presenting an easy target. This is what Paul meant by wearing the whole armor of God. The more we prepare and practice our faith (prayer, study of the Word, strengthening or faith) the less effect the enemy’s plans will have on us. Too often we are not prepared and we get ourselves in situations that we have to fight through it. I learned along time ago that if you are ready to fight, you often won’t have to. The same goes for spiritual fights. If you have properly prepared sin will have no power over you and persecutions will not break you. When the attacks come and they seem like they will overwhelm you, step back and let God fight the battle (2 Chronicles 20, Nehemiah 4).
I realize now that we can have peace in this world even with the struggles we face. I am not saying it comes easy, we must train and work at being ready as any soldier does. Be prepared and let God bring you peace through faith in Him.
